HIV in 2026 looks very different from the HIV epidemic of decades ago. Antiretroviral therapy has transformed HIV into a manageable condition, U=U has changed our understanding of transmission, and new technologies such as long-acting medicines, broadly neutralizing antibodies, gene editing and therapeutic vaccines could reshape the future.

But HIV is far from over.

Millions of people living with HIV still do not have access to treatment, new infections continue every year, and the hidden HIV reservoir remains one of the biggest barriers to a cure.

'Big Step Forward' in HIV treatment Celebrated (London/UK/Global)

A new development in the treatment of HIV has been hailed as a "big step forward" by a London professor who was part of the research team.

Currently, those taking a pill for HIV take the medication daily which is not always easy or practical and leaves some who have not made their diagnosis widely known worried that someone like a parent or housemate could find the pills.

Now, an international clinical trial has found taking it weekly is just as effective.

According to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency, external, about 39,750 people in London are living with HIV, of which about 1,250 are undiagnosed.

Stephen Hart from Brixton was diagnosed with HIV in 2006.

He said: "Every time I took my medication, I was reminded that I was living with HIV, and it was something that I was ashamed of.

"I knew other people had a stigma against it.

"So I think taking a tablet once a week instead of taking a tablet seven times a week will make a huge difference to people mentally."

HIV medication, known as antiretroviral therapy (ART), uses drugs to stop the virus from multiplying. Treatment typically reduces the viral load to undetectable levels, protecting the immune system and preventing sexual transmission of the virus.

The once-a-week tablet combines two medicines: Islatravir and Lenacapavir.

The trial involved 607 adults across 106 clinical sites in 12 countries, and the findings were presented at the International AIDS Conference in Rio de Janeiro.

Participants will continue to be followed for 96 weeks to assess longer-term safety and effectiveness.

Other than taking medication, there is an option of an injection which is administered six times a year at a clinic. However, not everyone considers that suitable for them.

'Greater flexibility'
Professor Chloe Orkin MBE from Queen Mary University of London, was involved in the new research, and said taking the pill weekly could provide "welcome relief from the burden of taking a pill every single day for the rest of their lives."

She added: "It offers greater flexibility while avoiding the need for injectable therapies.

"This is especially important for those experiencing stigma and for those with other HIV-associated health conditions who are taking many other tablets too."

Kenya records 13,936 new HIV infections in 2026

Young people in Kenya continue to shoulder a significant share of the country’s HIV burden, with children, adolescents, and youth accounting for more than half of all new infections recorded in 2026. New data from the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council shows that Kenya recorded 13,936 new HIV infections in 2026, marking a 56 percent decline from 2020, when infections stood at 32,027, an indication that expanded prevention efforts are yielding results.

For millions of women, the minute they give birth, they’re filled with incredible joy, and their instinct is to protect their babies at all costs. However, 1 in 7 women will develop postpartum depression and anxiety after having a baby, and some women even develop postpartum psychosis. New moms may have fantasies of escaping their reality, panic attacks, hallucinations, and worst of all, may kill their children. Many women have no history of mental health issues and are too embarrassed to talk publicly about this, fearing they will be judged as bad moms. a full time wife and a mom to Micah (7), Adeline (5), Emerson
(3) and Chloe (17 months). She understands the demands
and isolation that being a mother of young children can bring.
Over the last year she has been involved in a storytelling
endeavor entitled MOMedy. This project consisted of writing
and performing a one woman tragic comedy based on her
postpartum experiences. Rachael considers herself to be a
maternal mental health advocate and hopes that sharing her
story and bringing awareness to the realities of perinatal mood
and anxiety disorders can break down the stigma surrounding
maternal mental health and encourage others to seek support
and treatment.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: What does postpartum psychosis actually feel like? As the Lindsay Clancy murder trial continues, jurors will hear from experts about postpartum psychosis. But there's one perspective they won’t hear, and it’s an important one - the judge ruled that women who have personally lived through postpartum psychosis cannot testify about their own experiences.

In this episode of Criminally Obsessed, investigative reporter Anne Emerson speaks with Kathryn Myers, a mother who survived postpartum psychosis and is sharing her story to raise awareness about the reality she experienced. Kathryn describes hearing voices, seeing shadow figures, and living in fear as the illness escalated after the birth of her child. Her goal isn't to declare Lindsay Clancy's guilt or innocence, but to help people understand what postpartum psychosis can actually feel like from the inside.

Lindsay Clancy’s defense argues she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of her children’s deaths in January 2023, and should be found not guilty by reason of insanity, while prosecutors contend she was fully aware of her actions. After Kathryn Myers shared her story online, thousands of women responded, describing similar hallucinations, intrusive thoughts, and fears they had been too afraid to tell anyone about. These stories reveal an often misunderstood condition that remains at the center of one of the most closely watched true crime trials in America.

And can have profound impact on bio-physical profiles, but also improved self esteem and interpersonal relationships. It is easy to implement, it is inexpensive and flexible.

Cynthia is a Western medicine trained nurse practitioner and functional nutritionist who is passionate about female hormonal health. She believes that the inherent power of food and nutrition can be your greatest asset to your health and wellness journey.
