Male postpartum depression has a couple of other names: paternal postpartum depression or paternal postnatal depression. No matter how you say it, men are avoiding talking about it.

In this video, Jason discusses some risk factors as well as many of the signs of male postpartum depression.

We all want to be great for our families but postpartum depression in men can be a roadblock. Most people are familiar with women getting it, but men also are at risk. Nearly 1 in 4 men show some sign of depression 3-6 months after the baby is born.

An Italian anti-abortion Organisation says it has more than 400 women who are prepared to adopt unclaimed British embryos due to be destroyed on Thursday.

The move puts the Catholic church in a difficult moral dilemma.

The Vatican is against all forms of artificial procreation, but says it also has a duty to preserve life.

Threading through the sensitive ethics raised by fertility technology, the Vatican is divided over the problem of frozen embryos.

The Catholic church is against artificial procreation, but does not want to see any embryo destroyed.

Now a Cardinal has suggested the adoption of embryos due to be destroyed as a last resort to save them.

Ideally the Catholic church says it wants to stop the production of frozen embryos.

John Paul the Second has intervened in the past in a very firm and decisive way, launching the following appeal to all governments. "Let us stop the machine that produces embryos." I think this is the right choice and the one all governments and all medical operators should take.

There's been a widespread response in Italy to the Church's call to save the embryos from destruction.

In the Tuscan city of Massa Carrara, more than 100 women have presented themselves to the local anti-abortion centre to adopt the embryos.

One woman says it's a natural choice for anyone who has already given life.

This is a choice to avoid these people being killed. For me the embryos are people, they are not things, they are not objects, they not just for scientific research.

The head of the centre says he's been inundated by calls from women who are ready to adopt these embryos and hopes the British government will rethink its decision to destroy them.

Up to today, we already have the formal backing of 400 women who have all publicly accepted the adoptions. But I know that in the rest of Italy the Centres for Help To Life are receiving dozens of further subscriptions daily. This is a mobilisation which is truly laudable, because it makes us understand that we still have a heart.

UK: First Batch of 3000 Frozen Embryos - Destroyed

The first of more than 3-thousand frozen embryos have been destroyed in Britain.

The dot-sized embryos had to be disposed of under a British law that limits the storage of in vitro fertilised eggs to five years.

There have been wide-spread protests from anti-abortion groups and fertility clinics who claim the law has not given clinics long enough to contact couples who have embryos in storage.

This laboratory in Harley Street in west London destroyed 200 frozen embryos earlier Thursday.

It was one of 32 laboratories around the country to do so under a law that says unclaimed embryos, used for fertility treatment, must be destroyed after five years unless the donors agree to extend storage by another 5 years.

The dot-sized embryos, some four cells and some just a single, undivided cell, were produced by infertile couples who needed more than one chance to give birth. And, in most cases, were not needed.

Their destruction took only a few minutes. They were removed from freezing nitrogen into a saline solution -- and then incinerated.

Pro-life campaigners have been outraged by the destruction. They appealed in vain yesterday to the British Prime Minister for a stay of execution.

Professor Ian Craft of the London Gynaecological and Fertility Centre is opposed to the law -- he believes the five year rule was applied arbitrarily and that embryos can survive for several decades.

These are some of the thawed embryos under the microscope -- in reality, they are invisible to the human eye.

That's the profoundness of this situation, the profundity is that here are lovely embryos that could have been used but because of a decree made by others without any flexibility they can't be used. They could have been potential children, they won't any longer.

The embryos have spent the last five years in liquid nitrogen canisters at a temperature of minus one hundred and ninety six degrees centigrade.

Around 10-thousand are stored at this clinic, Bourn Hall in Cambridgeshire -- the largest in vitro fertilisation clinic in the country.

Of that number, nine hundred embryos whose five year span is up are currently unaccounted for.

Professor Craft says the five year rule should never have been written in law.

SOUNDBITE:
At the end of the day I don't think the Department of Health's full time medical advisers have taken proper consultation with fertility and scientific specialists a about the risks of storing and b about the wisdom of putting it in statute law. In essence what they did was to put storage into the law rather than into guidelines of a code of practice which controls our fertility treatment and secondly they put a ridiculously short time of five years in.

Steve will cover the 3 major types of orgasms women can have, how each type is different and why women would want to experience them. The major benefits of becoming multiorgasmic for women. Steve has an unusual background that spans from various health modalities to neuroscience research, and the tech industry. He began studying Tai Chi at 8 and was introduced to Mantak Chia's teachings on Taoist Yoga and sexuality at 13. He has a BS in nutritional biochemistry from UNC-CH, then transitioned to research and graduate study in neuroscience at Wake Forest School of Medicine. In the mid-1990s he paused his research to launch a series of internet companies. Then after working in the tech industry for 15 years, a tragedy caused a very unexpected discovery. This led Steve and his wife Wendy into sexual health research in 2009. They both received doctorates in clinical sexology from the IASHS. For several years Steve was an associate professor there, mainly studying female anorgasmia, and ways to enhance the "sensate focus" techniques developed by Masters and Johnson. His approach maps this proven method to a modern understanding of how our nervous system works. Over the past 12 years, Wendy and Steve have worked with several thousand couples studying sexual response. He holds 6 patents on technologies related to sexual and pelvic health.

A key distinction with their approach is they create a bridge between abstract spiritual experiences and measurable, repeatable, physical results.

A silent epidemic of mental health among prostate cancer survivors: A secondary analysis of the CLSA

Mental health issues among prostate cancer survivors compared to the general population have been previously reported, although large population-based data are lacking. This CLSA webinar examines the association between the presence of a lifetime history of a prostate cancer diagnosis, multimorbidity, current alcohol and smoking status, and current mental health disorder in this population. The analytical sample included 25,183 men (aged 45 to 85 years old) which completed a survey as part of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D10), Kessler’s Psychological Distress Scale (K10) and self-reported mental health were mental health outcomes.

Louise Moodie is a recent M.Sc. graduate of Community Health and Epidemiology from Dalhousie University and now a second-year medical student at Dalhousie University. Dr. Gabriela Ilie is an Endowed Chair in Prostate Cancer Quality of Life Research in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. Her research examines the needs and challenges of men diagnosed with prostate cancer and prostate cancer survivors and actions this evidence-based information into tangible education and empowerment programs aimed at improving the lives of cancer survivors.

Why is it that sexually transmitted infections – or STIs - continue to be a problem among teens and young adults? It’s not a question of whether teens are having sex. By 12th grade, 65% of high school students will have engaged in sexual intercourse, and one in five sexually active teens will have had four or more sexual partners. These numbers continue to rise after high school.

Young people aged 15-24 represent only a quarter of the sexually active population. Yet they carry almost half of all STIs out there. In fact, 1 in 2 sexually active teens and young adults will get an STI before they are 25. But only 12% of sexually active teens and young adults get tested - which means a person with an STI may not know they are carrying an infection.

STIs don't always show symptoms. It’s possible to carry and spread an infection even if you feel completely healthy. So, it’s very important to get tested if you are sexually active – not only to prevent the spreading of these infections but also because untreated STIs can add up to serious health problems, like infertility (the inability to have a baby) or pelvic inflammatory disease, which could land you in the hospital.

Although STIs can be scary and embarrassing at times, we know they are not uncommon. The good news is that they can usually be cured or treated. If you’re having sex, protect yourself by using condoms and getting tested for STIs. If you feel uncomfortable talking with your doctor about your sexual health, keep in mind that your few moments of feeling uncomfortable are outweighed by the benefit of addressing a potential health problem early on. Don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor about actions you can take to safeguard your sexual health.
