‘Britain’s Police Are NOT Ready’ | Peter Bleksley On Whether UK Could Handle France-Style Protests
.
.
Clashes broke out during mass demonstrations across France on Saturday, despite the deployment of more than 70,000 police officers. The protests centred on rising living costs, spending cuts and wider social grievances, with most demonstrations remaining peaceful.
The violence followed unrest the previous weekend, raising questions about the resources needed to contain widespread disorder and how British police would respond to similar scenes.
Peter Bleksley says a warning reached him indirectly from a senior police source that UK forces “couldn’t cope”. He argues that Britain’s policing capacity leaves serious questions about preparedness. Duncan Barkes speaks with former Metropolitan Police detective Peter Bleksley.
