A dark secret threatens the honor of the British Empire. Set at a prestigious Regimental outpost in Colonial India, the story unfolds during an elegant officers' party. The evening turns scandalous when the widow of a decorated war hero, Captain Scarlett, is brutally assaulted in the garden.

She points the finger at one of the newly arrived junior Lieutenants, a man already viewed as an outsider. To avoid a public scandal, the Regiment organizes a secret, internal court-martial. However, as the defense officer (Michael York) digs deeper into the testimony, he uncovers a twisted web of lies, sadistic traditions, and a cover-up that threatens to destroy everyone involved.
