Court Orders Deregistration of ADC, AP, AA, APP and ZLP
.
.
The Federal High Court of Nigeria has ordered the deregistration of five political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party (AP), Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Delivering judgment, Justice Peter Lifu directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister the affected parties for failing to meet constitutional requirements, including securing at least 25 percent of votes in the last general election as required by law.
The court further ruled that the parties would be barred from participating in future elections, including the 2027 general polls, for failing to meet the electoral threshold.
The suit was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, challenging the continued existence of the parties under electoral laws.
The judgment marks a significant development in Nigeria’s political and electoral landscape.
