???? **Major UK ILR Update 2026**
Could the proposed **10-year UK settlement rule** be changed?
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has made an important statement about the government's proposed changes to **Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)** following concerns about how the reforms could affect migrants who came to the UK legally.
The government's earned settlement proposals have included:
✅ Increasing the standard settlement qualifying period from 5 years to 10 years
✅ A possible 15-year route for some Skilled Workers in jobs below RQF Level 6
✅ A new “earned settlement” system based on factors such as contribution, conduct, integration and residence
But these proposals should **not be confused with final Immigration Rules**.
