West Africa's regional bloc, the Economic Community of West African States - ECOWAS - has unanimously adopted Ghana's President, John Mahama, as its sole candidate for the position of Chairperson of the African Union in 2027.
The position is currently occupied by Angola's President, Manuel Lourenço.
