Fans of The Evil Dead series and ritual-based films like The Wishmaster series cannot miss this highly praised by forgotten horror movie.

A group of seven young friends gather for a seemingly relaxing weekend at a remote cabin in the woods. Their quiet getaway turns deadly when they discover and decide to play a mysterious, ritualistic game. By ignoring the warnings, they unknowingly summon three hideous, murderous ghosts—witches—who are intent on killing the entire group. They must race against time to solve the various mysteries surrounding the game to escape the clutches of the evil they have unleashed and survive the night.

Ghost Game emerged in the early to mid-2000s, a period where the horror landscape, particularly in North America, was still navigating the wake of the successful late-90s slasher revival epitomized by Scream and the burgeoning interest in more visceral, low-budget, or foreign horror imports. A simple premise of "teens in a remote location facing a supernatural threat" fit snugly into the direct-to-video/DVD market which was a thriving distribution model for low-to-mid-budget horror films.

Focusing on an occult game, witches, and ghosts Ghost Game was outside the torture-scare Saw-inspired trend that was about to hit its peak, and also distinct from the found-footage boom established with The Blair Witch Project. Instead, it leaned into the old-school supernatural cabin horror trope, suggesting a reliance on atmosphere and ritualistic dread over extreme gore.
