ABOUT
Although he has been singing professionally since the age of twelve, Ibrahim Ferrer didn’t have his international breakthrough until 1997 with Ry Cooder’s project Buena Vista Social Club. Dos Gardenias, the sharp bolero on the CD Buena Vista Social Club, became the exclamation mark behind his musical career, which until then had consisted of musical contributions to a.o. the influential latin jazz group Orquestra Chepin-Choven and to Los Buocos. In fact since the eighties Ferrer had hardly sung anymore and passed his days polishing shoes until musician/producer Ry Cooder took notice of him with regard to his Cuban project. Ferrer’s solo album in ‘99 was the second project of the Buena Vista Social Club and was once again extremely successful. Ferrer won the Grammy for Best New Artist at the Latin Grammy Awards 2000. On his new CD Mi Sueño - a Bolero Songbook the almost eighty-year old singer presents many romantic boleros, not only preferred by him but also well-known and loved in Cuba.
