Labour in A Weak Position

Tories say Chancellor Rachel Reeves should apologise if she increases taxes in the Budget. Kemi Badenoch called her a “coward” for refusing to admit it.
Reeves is expected to announce major tax rises on Wednesday to help fix a £20bn gap. Extending the freeze on income tax thresholds could pull nearly a million low earners into paying more, which Badenoch says breaks Labour’s promise not to tax “working people.”
Meanwhile, some MPs warn that scrapping the two-child benefit cap would mainly benefit foreign-born families. The government says it may tighten benefit rules for migrants, while Labour argues the Tories have no credibility after damaging the economy.
