Nigel Farage Calls the Prime Minister a Liar Over Russia and Brexit

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham faced a heated confrontation in the House of Commons over his remarks about alleged Russian interference in the 2016 Brexit referendum.

Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch challenged Burnham to clarify whether he believed Russia had influenced or “swung” the Brexit vote, pointing to his recent comments on The Rest Is Politics podcast.
Burnham rejected that interpretation, telling MPs: “I implied no such thing in my comments.”

He said it was a matter of record that Russian actors had sought to interfere in the 2019 UK general election and argued that it was “inconceivable” this was the first such attempt.
However, on the podcast, Burnham had said he asked after entering Downing Street whether there had been Russian interference in the 2016 referendum — and claimed he had received a clear answer that “yes, there was.”

Burnham did not provide evidence in the remarks that Russian interference had changed the outcome of the referendum. Russia has not commented on the allegations.

The exchange has now put fresh focus on the question of Russian interference, Brexit and the UK government's evidence for its claims.
