Finn Anderson has co-created four award-nominated musicals as a composer, lyricist and scriptwriter, consistently tackling diverse subject matter and wide-ranging musical styles. Most recently, Finn composed Edinburgh Fringe hit Islander - a contemporary folktale written for just two female voices and looping technology. Islander was part of the Made In Scotland showcase, winning Musical Theatre Review’s Best Musical award before a transfer to London’s Southwark Playhouse, where the show was nominated for the Off West End Award for Best New Musical.
Finn’s debut full-length album ‘Until The Light’ was released in June 2019. A remarkably honest storyteller with a rich baritone voice that is both powerful and tender, Finn’s songs have found a home with an ever-growing international audience. The release led to collaborations across Scotland’s folk and jazz scenes, a solo US tour with Sofar Sounds, and performances at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for Celtic Connections festival as part of LGBT+ folk music collective Bogha-Frois.
Finn has written two new musicals co-commissioned by the American Music Theatre Project in Chicago and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - City of Dreams and A Mother's Song. Other musical theatre work includes Come Hell or High Water (Citizens Theatre/Sky Arts) Streets (Hackney Empire/The Cockpit/The Vaults, ‘Best New Musical’ nominee, Off West End Awards) Alba (Edinburgh Fringe, MTM Award nominee). Finn was shortlisted for the 2019 Stiles and Drewe Best New Song Prize. His songs have been performed extensively in cabaret UK-wide, in the West End, in Chicago and in New York.
Finn is the 2020 recipient of the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer Award. He will undertake a 6-month residency at The Lowry and Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, where he will work on a range of projects across both venues.
