The Curious Case of Brubaker’s Captain America
.
.
Ed Brubaker's Captain America is one of Marvel's most acclaimed comic runs, introducing Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier and redefining the character for a new generation. But what happens when one of the greatest Captain America stories of the 2000s starts to lose its way?
In this video essay, I take a deep dive into Ed Brubaker's entire Captain America run, from the original Winter Soldier storyline through Civil War, the Death of Captain America, Bucky Barnes taking up the shield, even through the Secret Avengers and the eventual decline of the series caused by the release of the first MCU Chris Evans movie in 2011.
So was Brubaker's Captain America really in decline — or was the series simply being asked to do too much?
