The impossible roads Central Africa
Living means taking risks in the Central African Republic, where years of armed conflict have severely weakened an already vulnerable country.
Despite its abundant natural resources, the population benefits little, facing daily hardships and limited access to basic services. Remote areas, such as Ngoto, remain completely isolated due to impassable roads, forcing motorcycles to serve as makeshift ambulances for medical emergencies — a perilous journey for patients.
The conflict has also decimated the country's vehicle fleet, with many taxis and buses destroyed or stolen. To cope with this shortage, some travellers are forced to use livestock trucks as a means of transport. Despite these extreme conditions, the population shows resilience, clinging to hope, even when it means sleeping under the stars.
