UK Budget 2026: John Healey's speech with Telegraph commentary
John Healey will deliver his maiden Budget today after addressing the Commons.
He has already spoken with the Cabinet, and is poised to announce a scraping of standing charges on electricity bills after announcing plans to axe the levy from households’ gas costs.
Mr Healey will examine whether he can remove the charges, dubbed a “poll tax on energy”, over the next year.
The news comes after he confirmed a Telegraph report that he would remove the charges from gas bills, saving 23 million homes around £45 each.
