UK Migration Falls 82% | Government Reveals 944,000 Peak Drop To 171,000 | Lords Debate Figures
The UK government has defended its migration record after revealing that net migration fell from a record peak of 944,000 in 2023 to 171,000 by the end of 2025.
During a House of Lords debate, Immigration Minister Lord Hanson of Flint said the figures represented an 82% decline, while peers questioned the government’s approach to immigration, asylum processing, citizenship rules and future migration levels.
Lord Sahota raised concerns that many members of the public still believe immigration is increasing despite the latest figures, while other Lords questioned the impact of migration on the NHS, visa dependants, border controls and integration.
The debate also covered government plans to modernise migration tracking systems, use technology for age assessments and manage asylum applications more quickly.
