UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham gives his first speech as leader to the annual Labour Party conference. After paying tribute to his predecessor Keir Starmer, he stated his intention to bring about stronger public control over housing, water and energy; set out plans to consider "options" on potential stronger ties with the EU later this year; and announced his government would work towards a 'national care service' which would be free at the point of use.
