UK SLAMMED by STORM AUSTEN — 80 MPH GUSTS, 10,000 Homes With No Power (Latest Updates)

Storm Austen, the first named storm of the season, has struck the south coast of the United Kingdom with gusts near 80 mph. The system brought down trees, closed roads, disrupted flights, and caused widespread power outages affecting tens of thousands of properties from Cornwall across to northern England.

The heavy rainfall follows months of dry weather and severe summer drought across southern England. Hardened soil and slow-draining aquifers mean much of the immediate precipitation risks severe surface runoff and urban localized flooding rather than drought relief.

In this video, you will see strong gale conditions along the UK coastline, structural damage and fallen trees across local roads, widespread electrical grid outages, and severe weather forecasts for the approaching Storm Boelo.

Global Weather covers natural disasters and extreme weather events as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
