Synopsis:
Hypnotic and spellbinding, 'Workin' Nights' follows one detrimental night in the life of post-war contract killer: Chuck Ramsay, as we follow his heartbreaking search for normality. Featuring a rip-roaring climax, as well as fantastic lead performances from Jordan Meaney and Demi-Lea Worrad - 'Workin Nights' asks the question: "Can your expectations destroy your reality?".

Written 5 years ago at the age of 17, with a clear and concise idea in my head of exactly how it was going to play out, WORKIN NIGHTS seared through the page as one of my most personal pieces of writing at the time... Of course, I wasn't to know what it'd be like as a contract killer wrapped up in a world that had completely consumed his moral compass. Yet, despite the films' eager commentary on murder and violence - That's NOT what this film is about - Instead, it's those very themes that act as a thin surface over the bubbling humanity that steams underneath. WORKIN NIGHTS is a film about a dreamer. A human being so sold into fantasies not-so-dissimilar to golden age hollywood, that his world has completely morphed into one of hope & extreme expectation... I refer of course to the lead character of Chuck Ramsay (powerfully portrayed by Jordan Meaney).
With a substance & style that nods to the legendary work of modern-day filmmakers like Lynne Ramsay and Edgar Wright, I set out to make WORKIN NIGHTS a consuming cinematic experience that utilises every tool I had at my disposal - despite operating on a $0 shooting budget. Because (I speak for the cast & crew as well as myself), it's not money that we as filmmakers need to enthral you... We don't care for giant cranes or 8K Digital Cinema cameras... We care for one thing: Telling a story through this medium which we all love - And in the story of WORKIN NIGHTS, I want to transport the audience into a world that is less focussed on time & setting, but more so trained on the Men and Women who inhabit it.
Aside from the many deep and powerful questions I wish to ask the audience through slices of visual and verbal storytelling - I primarily want viewers to have an absolute blast with the genre-mashing material! Let the night pull you into it's ambiguity!... Have a gut-busting laugh at the unrivalled Australian wit displayed in this unique & proud film from Down Under!... May the talented performers in this film move you with their ever-changing stance on how they view the characters!... But most importantly - Enjoy some hair-raising action sequences that I hope will make for a blisteringly entertaining experience at the movies!
