'Britain United In Agreeing Keir Was A Failure!' | Burnham Bins Starmer Allies In Cabinet

Andy Burnham’s first major cost-of-living policy has been hit by claims that its funding does not add up.
The Prime Minister announced that VAT on household electricity bills will be cut from 5% to zero from October 1. The move is expected to save a typical household around £45 a year and cost the Treasury approximately £850 million in 2026/27.
Burnham says the tax cut will be funded by scrapping Sir Keir Starmer’s planned £1.8 billion digital ID programme.
However, former minister Darren Jones claimed the digital ID project had not been properly funded, meaning its cancellation may not provide the savings Burnham is promising.
Kemi Badenoch accused the new Government of using money from an unfunded programme, while Reform UK’s Robert Jenrick declared: “Burnham’s numbers don’t add up.”
Charlie Rowley speaks with political editor for The Spectator, James Heale.
