Britain’s defence funding timetable is facing scrutiny after ministers indicated that plans to reach 3% of GDP would be addressed at the next spending review rather than the October Budget. MPs have questioned whether the government is moving quickly enough to prepare the armed forces.
The debate comes as NATO allies work towards spending 5% of GDP on defence and related security by 2035, including at least 3.5% on core military requirements. The government says defence investment is already increasing, but pressure remains over the pace and funding of further commitments.
