A silent epidemic of mental health among prostate cancer survivors: A secondary analysis of the CLSA
Mental health issues among prostate cancer survivors compared to the general population have been previously reported, although large population-based data are lacking. This CLSA webinar examines the association between the presence of a lifetime history of a prostate cancer diagnosis, multimorbidity, current alcohol and smoking status, and current mental health disorder in this population. The analytical sample included 25,183 men (aged 45 to 85 years old) which completed a survey as part of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D10), Kessler’s Psychological Distress Scale (K10) and self-reported mental health were mental health outcomes.
Louise Moodie is a recent M.Sc. graduate of Community Health and Epidemiology from Dalhousie University and now a second-year medical student at Dalhousie University. Dr. Gabriela Ilie is an Endowed Chair in Prostate Cancer Quality of Life Research in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. Her research examines the needs and challenges of men diagnosed with prostate cancer and prostate cancer survivors and actions this evidence-based information into tangible education and empowerment programs aimed at improving the lives of cancer survivors.
