The ABC “arrogantly ignored” complaints against its “star reporter” Louise Milligan after she delivered a controversial speech at a lawyer event in Canberra, says Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.

“The Australian's Janet Albrechtsen broke the story that Milligan used the speech – in the middle of the Bruce Lerhmann trial – to call for radical changes to the legal system and blamed criminal prosecutors for driving complainants to suicide,” Mr Houghton said.

The ABC responded by ignoring the complaints and “tweeted out a link to all the awards Milligan has won” after she denied the allegations.

ABC Managing Director David Anderson said the ABC was not responsible for Ms Milligan’s speech or live tweets she published during Senate estimates, when Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson questioned the allegations.

“Now that is a pathetic response, considering the ABC paid the bill for Louise Milligan's tweets when she defamed Andrew Lamming,” Mr Houghton said.

“It cost you almost $200,000.

“They had the audacity to charge you for her blunder, but now that it’s inconvenient for the ABC to defend her social media conduct, they say they are not responsible.

“Whenever you hear the ABC complain about resources or budget cuts, you think about this case.”
