Villagers are furious after plans emerged to move 83 asylum seekers into 21 newbuild homes on a Shropshire estate that many believed was meant for social housing. Locals in Stoke Heath say they feel misled, arguing the properties should have gone to hard-pressed families already living in the area rather than being handed over as migrant accommodation. Critics warn the move could pile pressure on schools and local services, while campaigners have already dubbed the development “Migrant Street”. The row is the latest flashpoint in Labour’s attempt to shut asylum hotels by moving people into houses and other sites across the country.
