Iran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz is weakening. Nearly 200 vessels crossed the strategic route over the past week, compared with only 40 two weeks earlier, as CENTCOM continues working to restore freedom of navigation. Iran’s pressure campaign is moving beyond the Middle East. Hackers linked to the Iranian regime reportedly forced a British energy facility offline for four days, raising fears in Europe that Tehran may be preparing a much larger cyber campaign against energy infrastructure. Bulgaria also moved American refueling aircraft after Iranian threats against U.S. targets in Europe.
Inside Iran, senior officials are warning about falling oil revenues, abnormal inflation, and a collapsing standard of living. Tehran is threatening Gulf states that cooperate with the United States, while behind the scenes Pakistan is expected to restart mediation between Washington and Tehran.
The mystery around Mojtaba Khamenei continues. Is the missing heir alive, injured, or dead? His absence has deepened the sense of instability inside Iran’s leadership, raising the question of who is really making decisions: Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s president, or the Revolutionary Guards.
Israeli fighter jets struck the Abu al-Duhur air base in northern Syria, near the Turkish border, in order to prevent Turkish-linked military systems from becoming established there. Israel fears that Turkish radar, air defenses, drones, or personnel in Syria could limit Israel’s freedom of action against Iran and its proxies.
Turkey is escalating politically, demanding that Interpol help arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials. Israel responded sharply, calling Erdogan a dictator leading an undemocratic and antisemitic regime. The question now is whether Turkey’s growing role in Syria could become a new strategic front for Israel.
The Houthis are signaling escalation against Saudi Arabia, Iran is threatening countries that join U.S. sanctions, and Israel is preparing for another round of direct confrontation. The Middle East is reaching a boiling point — not because anyone necessarily wants war, but because too many players may now believe the cost of avoiding it is higher than the cost of entering it.
