IRAN: President Trump announced a temporary two-week ceasefire with Tehran just before his ultimatum was set to take effect, while Iran declared what it called a major victory and claimed the enemy had no choice but to surrender. Trump said the pause depends on a full opening of the Strait of Hormuz, but Iranian messaging has sounded very different, raising major questions about whether this is truly the end of the war or only a pause.
DIPLOMACY: Negotiations between the United States and Iran are expected to open Friday in Pakistan, with Trump outlining what he says are the terms of the temporary arrangement. According to his statements, Iran will not enrich uranium, and Washington plans to continue negotiations on the nuclear issue, sanctions relief, and broader understandings. Trump also warned that any country supplying military weapons to Iran would face an immediate 50% tariff.
STRAIT OF HORMUZ: Even as Trump said Hormuz should fully reopen, confusion remains on the ground. Hundreds of oil tankers are reportedly still waiting for clarification over whether the strait is truly open and under what conditions. At the same time, Iran is threatening to shut the Strait of Hormuz if Israel continues striking in Lebanon.
LEBANON: While strikes on Iran have paused, Israel has shifted major firepower toward Hezbollah. Dozens of Israeli fighter jets reportedly carried out Operation “Eternal Darkness,” striking 100 targets in Lebanon, including intelligence headquarters, launch infrastructure, and Radwan Force assets. Lebanese officials say the strikes caused heavy casualties, while Hezbollah operatives are reportedly fleeing the Dahieh area in shock.
REGION: Iran is threatening to withdraw from the ceasefire arrangement if Israel continues operations in Lebanon, while U.S. officials have stated clearly that Lebanon is not part of the agreement. The Houthis are also issuing threats in support of Lebanon and Hezbollah, warning that Yemen is still “on the trigger,” raising fears that more nighttime attacks on Israel could still follow.
