Burnham Announces Early Release of Prisoners Will be Paused

The mother of police officer Andrew Harper has told ITV News how 'devasted' and 'let down' her son would be at the prospect of his killers being released from prison early.

Debbie Adlam spoke following reports this week that the men responsible for PC Harper's death, Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers, may have been eligible for early release under a scheme aiming to free up space in prisons.

Asked about Prime Minister Andy Burnham's decision in his first week of government to pause the early release scheme, Adlam said it was "a good start" but is "not enough".
