Fans of Agatha Christie's Death On The Nile, The Saint and The Falcon cannot miss this entertaining chapter in the long-running Charlie Chan mystery movies series. Charlie Chan is played this time by Sidney Toler.

Aboard the S.S. Newcastle, an ocean liner bound for Samoa and Australia, Chinese-Hawaiian detective Charlie Chan is sought out by a U.S. Treasury agent, Scott Pearson, who is investigating a ring responsible for stealing money and artworks from Philippine banks during the recent war. Pearson confides in Chan that his life is in danger, but before Chan can fully intervene, the agent is murdered—stabbed in the back with a thrown knife during a shipboard ceremony. The captain implores Chan to take up the case, which he reluctantly agrees to, assisted by his Number Three son, Jimmy Chan, and his chauffeur's cousin, Chattanooga Brown. The investigation unfolds amidst a colorful cast of suspicious passengers, leading Charlie Chan from the foggy decks of the steamer to the exotic locale of Pago Pago, American Samoa, as he untangles a web of blackmail, hidden contraband, and multiple murders before identifying the surprising killer.

Dangerous Money is the 39th entry in the long-running Charlie Chan film series and one of the later entries produced by Monogram Pictures. This phase of the franchise, which began in 1944 after 20th Century Fox dropped the series, is characterized by significantly lower production budgets, shorter running times (around 60-70 minutes), and a faster production schedule. The films often recycled stock footage and sets.

The film stars Sidney Toler in his penultimate appearance as the iconic detective, and his failing health is reportedly noticeable, leading to an increased role for his sidekicks, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan) and Willie Best (as Chattanooga Brown). Best replaced the more customary Mantan Moreland (as Birmingham Brown) for this and one other film, a change often attributed to Moreland's personal appearance tour. These Monogram films, while successful B-pictures, are generally considered a step down in quality from the Fox era, relying more on formula, quick plots, and the comic relief.
