While many people are aware of post-partum depression, which occurs after pregnancy, some women also struggle with depression during pregnancy. Tamar Gur, MD, PhD, a Maternal-Fetal Psychiatrist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, describes some of the symptoms—isolation, crying for no reason, low energy, eating issues and a feeling of worthlessness—which should prompt an expectant mom to seek treatment. Dr. Gur says a combination of medication and therapy are often used to help.
