The trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd, is expected to begin Monday with opening arguments.
Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, who died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn. after the officer knelt on his neck for an extended period during an arrest.
Videos of the incident set off nationwide protests over police brutality and systemic racism in law enforcement.
Family and friends of George Floyd gathered for a vigil in Minneapolis on Sunday ahead of the trial. The trial is expected to last about four weeks.
