EU-UK relationship: a new chapter?
.
.
Members of Parliament are discussing their expectations for the upcoming EU-UK summit with representatives of the Irish Council Presidency and the European Commission.
On 20 November, European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will host the UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, in Brussels for the second EU-UK summit. The leaders are expected to review progress since the first summit took place in London last year and discuss further ways to strengthen cooperation on defence and security, energy, climate, migration, law enforcement and other key areas.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has recently called for a reset in relations with the EU, stating that the current post-Brexit relationship is not good enough and that closer ties with the Union could help boost economic growth, improve security and address migration. He has also opened the door to a broader discussion about the UK’s long-term relationship with the EU.
During the debate, MEPs share their views on the future of the EU-UK relations and outline their priorities for the upcoming summit.
