FRANCE PROTESTS LIVE: Macron’s Pension Battle Returns, France Shuts Down in Strike
.
.
France was hit by a nationwide strike on Thursday as unions mobilised against the government’s economic plans and demanded the reversal of pension reforms. The protests, organised by the powerful Intersyndicale alliance of eight major unions, come just two weeks into Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s tenure, after parliament forced out François Bayrou. Lecornu, still assembling his cabinet and yet to present a draft budget, faces pressure to stabilise public finances while managing widespread anger over pensions and spending cuts.
