Mark is a deeply disturbed young man who travels the lonely highways in his father's sophisticated motorhome. Driven by a dark obsession and a fractured psyche, he prowls for solitary women to kidnap and subject to a terrifying ordeal of psychological and physical torment. His latest target is Daniela, a young woman whose life becomes a desperate struggle for survival as she is trapped inside the mobile prison of a madman who blurs the lines between love and lethal obsession.
Directed by the master of Italian genre cinema, Umberto Lenzi, this film is a claustrophobic and unflinching exploration of a predator's mind. Shot in the United States, it blends the aesthetics of the American road movie with the raw intensity of the Italian "poliziottesco" and slasher traditions. Featuring an early performance by Josie Bissett, "Hitcher in the Dark" remains a disturbing cult classic that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats until the final, shocking confrontation.
