Hysterical
This series chronicles my continuing efforts to digitally archive my entire VHS collection, and I will be posting any cool or odd things I find.
In this episode, we present the full-length feature film HYSTERICAL (1982), starring The Hudson Brothers (Bill, Mark, and Brett), Julie Newmar, Richard Kiel, Cindy Pickett, Robert Donner, Murray Hamilton, Clint Walker, Franklyn Ajaye, and Charlie Callas, directed by Chris Bearde. (For the record, it is unclear when this movie was released. According to IMDb AND on-screen titles in the film it was 1982, but several other sources, including the VHS box, cite 1983. However, I am certain 1983 was the year the VHS was released, which may explain the confusion.) The copy on the back reads, “A haunted lighthouse occupied by the vengeful spirit of a spurned woman is the setting for “Hysterical.” Despite warnings and ominous signals from the two famous adventurers-cum-detectives, best-selling author Frederic Lansing, seeking to 'getaway from it all' decides to rent the lighthouse near the rural Oregon resort town of Hellview. What follows is a suspenseful murder mystery plot played strictly for laughs with this all-star cast playing against type, or spoofing their own media image.” Rated PG at a running time of 86 minutes, this film was released by New World Pictures and Cinema Group and distributed by Embassy Home Entertainment. I present it here for archiving, educational, and entertainment purposes.
