After months of back-and-forth, India and the United States are reportedly close to finalising a long-awaited trade agreement. The possible breakthrough comes just days after a Diwali interaction between PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, who confirmed their conversation focused largely on trade. Reports suggest Washington may reduce tariffs on Indian goods from 25% to 15–16%, while India could expand energy and agricultural imports from the US. However, dairy products remain a key sticking point. Analysts see the move as a sign that both nations want cooperation, not confrontation, amid global economic shifts. A formal announcement could come by the end of October during the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.
