Pre-election polling from i24NEWS and other networks projected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing bloc to win around 50 to 59 seats. The opposition bloc, led by Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot, was projected at roughly 47 to 54 seats. Neither camp was clearly tracking to hit the 61-seat majority required to form a government in the 120-member Knesset.
The final alignment of the Knesset heavily depends on whether small parties manage to clear the 3.25% electoral threshold. Any party that falls short will see its votes eliminated, potentially shifting several seats between the main rival blocs in the final count
Israelis voted closely watched election to decide on the direction of the country, three years after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on southern Israel that set off the genocidal war on Gaza.
The first election since those attacks comes at a time when Israel’s pogroms in the occupied West Bank have escalated, and amid mounting tensions with several of its neighbours, many of whom it has attacked in the past three years.
