Labour Wants to Scrap Gas Standing Charges — But Will Your Bill REALLY Fall?
.
.
Labour has approved the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea, arguing that Britain still needs domestic gas for energy security and to protect jobs.
At the same time, Prime Minister Andy Burnham has asked ministers to examine whether gas standing charges should be scrapped.
Those charges currently cost the average household around £108 a year before any gas is used.
So this video asks a very simple question:
If Britain still needs gas badly enough to approve Jackdaw, why are households paying a daily charge just for being connected?
And there is another catch.
Removing the standing charge does not automatically remove the underlying costs. Those costs could simply be shifted onto the unit price, meaning some households may save more than others.
The real question is not whether the standing charge disappears.
It is:
Will your total bill actually fall?
