Captain Phillip Donlin and his small troop of U.S. Cavalry soldiers embark on a desperate mission to warn Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer of an impending Sioux attack at Little Big Horn. As they traverse perilous terrain and face increasing dangers from Native American forces, internal conflicts arise within the troop, particularly between Donlin and Lieutenant John Haywood, who Donlin suspects is having an affair with his wife.
