Okrika Tragedy: 43 Feared Dead in Oil-Siphoning Incident

At least 43 people have died after inhaling concentrated fumes during a suspected illegal petroleum-siphoning operation at Okari Jetty in Okrika, Rivers State, with several others still missing. The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation.
Community sources say more than 200 youths arrived at the jetty in wooden boats to collect petroleum products through an illegally connected pipeline, with several people collapsing and others reportedly drowning after falling into the river.
