Police Guard RAF Fairford After Five Arrested In Suspected Terror Plot Near US-Used Airbase

British counter-terrorism police remained deployed around RAF Fairford after five men were arrested near the airbase on suspicion of explosives and terrorism offences. Officers detained the suspects after receiving reports that three large white vans were heading towards the military installation, which has been used by U.S. forces for operations involving Iran. Police established a 400-metre cordon and evacuated residents from 85 homes while bomb disposal specialists examined the vehicles. Investigators have not publicly identified a motive or those detained. A source familiar with the investigation said possible Iranian links, Russian sabotage and an Islamist plot were among the lines being examined.
