Vs Chioma Okoli Saga Goes Viral| W/OjyOkpe
In Manitoba Canada, the government has introduced a bill that would commemorate Nigerian Independence Day and celebrate the dynamic community of Nigerians.

Uzoma Asagwara, who is the Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Seniors and Long-term Care of Manitoba presented the bill to be read for the first time on the floor of the parliament and emphasized the importance of having Nigerian Independence Day recognized formally through legislation, so that the over 7,000 Nigerians residing in Manitoba can feel valued and welcomed in the province.

The minister is the first and only Nigerian member of the legislative assembly.

As the women’s month comes to a close, the Governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke, has promised to issue an executive order to pardon women, who were “unjustly incarcerated” in the state.

The Governor made the statement when he met with the minister of women affairs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye during an intergovernmental marathon in Abuja.

The Governor also directed the immediate implementation of the resolution of the Nigerian Governor’s Forum for the establishment of Mobile Courts dedicated to addressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence, child abuse in the form of street begging and expedited trial of women and children held in correctional facilities.

Chioma Okoli, the 39-year-old entrepreneur from Lagos, who is being prosecuted, by a tomato paste manufacturer, Erisco foods, after she posted a review of one of his tomato paste products on Facebook, has gained global attention with several international media houses including, CNN, New York Post, Daily mail, and Daily star reporting on the story.


Okoli is being charged with breaching cybercrime laws and is facing up to three years in jail or a fine of 7 million naira or both. Additionally, she could face a seven-year sentence if convicted of conspiring against the company.

Erisco Foods Limited is also suing Okoli for damages of 5 billion naira citing reputational damage and loss of suppliers.

Okoli’s case sparked protests in Lagos after the company’s founder, Eric Umeofia, refused to budge in a recent documentary by Adesuwa Giwa Osagie saying that he won’t drop the lawsuit against Okoli and that he would “rather die” than to allow someone tarnish his image, despite several interventions.

Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo Olu, and a host of others have wished Nigeria’s President elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu a happy 72nd Birthday.

Buhari in this birthday message, prayed for good health and long life for the president, and commended him for making “sustained efforts to overcome the many problems of the country”.

The president this week, had canceled any birthday celebrations and had urged friends and well-wishers across the country not to organise any celebratory event on his behalf, in the wake of the recent killing of the officers and men of the Armed Forces and Police in Delta State as well as the recent spate of ‘security breaches by criminal elements in different parts of Nigeria.

‘Jennifer Serano’ who composed a birthday song for the president last year, has released a new video on X to celebrate the president.
