Racism and Sexism in Medical Device and Service Design
The subtle ways that design in the medical space tends toward “one size fits all,” which usually means “one size fits white men.” We will explore how biases and ignorance contribute to poorer health outcomes for women and minorities.
In her talk, Summer Stickney will share what she learned during her journey towards more unbiased research while working on MSD projects.
Summer Stickney is a senior UX Designer at MSD. After completing her degree in medieval history at the University of California at Berkeley she worked for startups and a few corporations in San Francisco before moving to Prague. Summer loves designing forms and creating simple, elegant interfaces. She has three children, two cats and one cottage. In her free time, she likes playing ancient video games and trail running.
