In this report, I'm leaving Russia with my family — but there's more to that story than the title might suggest.
But what does it actually look like on the ground now?
We drive roughly 1,000 km across southern Russia, from Rostov toward Sochi and the border with Abkhazia, checking fuel stations along the way to see whether Russia's fuel shortage is really as serious as some reports suggest.

What we find is very different from what we were seeing just weeks ago.
There WAS a fuel shortage in parts of southern Russia. I saw the lines and the problems myself. But now, across the areas we traveled, fuel is available, most stations have little or no waiting, and prices at many stations appear to be returning toward normal.
So was Russia's fuel crisis a lasting problem — or another temporary disruption that came and went?
I also discuss Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, attacks on civilian commercial infrastructure, the changing situation on the front line, and what I've personally witnessed inside Russia.
And yes… I'm leaving Russia.
