Storm Austen is about to hit western Europe — and it may only be the beginning.

The first named storm of the season is expected to deepen rapidly over the Atlantic before reaching Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France on Friday, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and dangerous seas. Behind it, a powerful jet stream is opening a storm corridor towards Europe, with more Atlantic lows lining up for the weekend and early next week.
