Tawny Pipit is a British comedy film produced by Prestige Productions in 1944. It tells of how the residents of a small English village collaborate when the nest of a pair of rare tawny pipits is discovered there.Jimmy Bancroft, a fighter pilot, who is recovering from injuries sustained during the Battle of Britain, and his nurse Hazel Broome, come across a pair of rare birds nestling in a field. After a run-in with the army and a couple of thieves, they, with the cooperation of the village people and the Ornithology Society, help the eggs to hatch. A wonderful look at life in a small village during World War II.

Starring Bernard Miles, Rosamund John and Niall MacGinnis.
The film was released on 28th April 1944.

The production company was Two Cities Films, who also made some very, popular, celebrated Biriths films of the 1940s.
Two Cities produced a number of quintessentially English film classics including the most popular British film from the wartime period, In Which We Serve (1942).Other Two Cities films such as This Happy Breed (1944), The Way Ahead (1944), Henry V (1944), The Way to the Stars (1945), and Blithe Spirit (1945) contributed significantly to the high critical reputation acquired by the British cinema of the time.

Two Cities Fillms became part of The Rank Organization and would continue to make key films such as Odd Man Out (1947), Hamlet (1948), and Vice Versa (1948). In the 1950s Two Cities would make The Purple Plain, the respected war film with Gregory Peck.
