The King and Queen welcomed the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu as they began their State Visit to the UK.

State Visits generally take place twice a year and are an opportunity for building relationships with other countries. This particular event is significant as it’s the first Nigerian state visit since 1989.

The President and First Lady were first greeted by Prince William and Princess Catherine at Fairmont Hotel Windsor.

Their Royal Highnesses then accompanied them to Datchet Road, Windsor, where The President and First Lady received a Ceremonial Welcome.

The King and Queen formally welcomed The President and First Lady at the Royal Dais, as a Royal Salute is fired in the Home Park in Windsor, and at the Tower of London.

The Sovereign’s Escort gave a Royal Salute, and the Nigerian National Anthem was played.

The President and First Lady then joined The King and Queen, and The Prince and Princess of Wales, in a carriage procession to Windsor Castle.

In the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, the carriage procession was met by a Guard of Honour and the Band of the Regiment. The Guard of Honour gave a Royal Salute, and the Band played both the Nigerian and British National Anthems.

The President, accompanied by The King, then inspected the Guard of Honour, before rejoining The Queen and Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu on the dais.
