The Protagonists: Political donation laws are undemocratic.

A row has broken out in the UK following receipt recently of £72 MILLION by Reform UK. Labour's The Representation of the People Bill, which hasn't yet passed the Parliament, proposes an annual cap of £100,000 on overseas political donations per calendar year. It applies rules on UK residency status, impacting individuals who recently relocated back to the UK. Once the bill passes into law, political parties will have 30 days to return donations received since 25 March 2026.

Rules applied retrospectively are fundamentally unfair and should be challenged. Nigel Farage is also right to ask why huge donations are acceptable when they go to the established parties, but a problem when they benefit smaller parties. Labour already receives substantial funding from the trade unions. Should this source of funding be removed?

We'll talk to our panel today on how stacked the system is against minor parties and if foreign influence on elections is really a problem. The Representation of the People Bill will also lower the voting age to 16. Is this also advantageous for Labour as it fights for its life at the next elections.
