"This Is My Affair" is a 1937 American period crime film directed by William A. Seiter, starring Robert Taylor, Barbara Stanwyck, Victor McLaglen, and Brian Donlevy. It was produced and released by 20th Century Fox.

Plot
In 1901, U.S. President William McKinley faces immense pressure, even from U.S. Bank Examiner Henry Maxwell, to address a gang of elusive bank robbers. McKinley discreetly sends U.S. Navy Lieutenant Richard L. Perry undercover without informing anyone, not even the Secret Service.

Using the alias Joe Patrick, Richard attempts to charm singer Lil Duryea. Her stepbrother Batiste, who owns the casino in Saint Paul, Minnesota where she performs, is also a gang leader. Despite Batiste's right-hand man, Jock Ramsay, considering Lil his girl, Joe's persistence pays off, and he convinces Lil to see him whenever Batiste and Jock are away on robberies.

Batiste eventually learns of Lil's affection for Joe and, believing Joe to be a fellow bank robber, invites him to join the gang. Lil, however, tries to persuade Joe to run away with her. He agrees and writes a resignation letter to McKinley but then changes his mind, knowing he hasn't yet uncovered the gang's mastermind. Consequently, Lil breaks up with him.

Joe alerts the President about the gang's next heist, planning to discover the leader's identity when they are captured. During the robbery, Batiste is killed, and Jock is wounded while resisting arrest.

In prison, Joe coaxes Jock into revealing that the Bank Examiner is the mastermind. However, McKinley is assassinated before receiving Joe's letter. Disbelieved, Joe and Jock are sentenced to death.

Lil visits Joe, who confesses everything and pleads with her to contact Admiral George Dewey. Initially resentful over Joe's deception and her stepbrother's death, Lil refuses. As the execution approaches, she relents and rushes to Dewey. Together, they appeal to the new President, Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt is skeptical until an official recalls McKinley's instruction to read a secret document if a letter bearing a specific symbol arrives and he is unavailable. Convinced, Roosevelt calls just after Jock's execution but before Joe's, saving him. Joe and Lil are then reunited.

Reception
In 1937, Graham Greene, writing for "Night and Day," praised the film as "the best American melodrama of the year." While acknowledging the plot's unrealistic elements, Greene commended the "cunning direction" and the pervasive "sense of doom" that heightened the tension. He also lauded the performances of Taylor and McLaglen.
