UK PMQs: Badenoch Presses PM Burnham On Russia Ukraine War & Manchester City Investigation | N18
.
.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham faced Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch during Prime Minister’s Questions, with the session dominated by Russia’s alleged interference in British democracy, welfare reform and energy security.
Badenoch challenged Burnham over his remarks on Russian interference in the 2016 Brexit referendum, citing comments attributed to the head of MI5. Burnham defended his position, saying hostile actors had sought to interfere in the UK’s democratic process and that Britain needed to confront the issue.
The exchange also covered energy policy, including the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields in the North Sea. Burnham said he would take a pragmatic approach and set out the government’s decisions after the relevant process was addressed.
Badenoch also accused Burnham of delaying welfare reform to avoid conflict with Labour MPs. Burnham said the government would bring forward the Milburn report and work to reduce the welfare bill, while improving mental health support and technical education.
