Venezuela declared a nationwide state of emergency on Thursday after twin earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck the country in quick succession, causing building collapses, power outages and widespread infrastructure damage. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez said at least 20 aftershocks had been recorded and that several states, including Caracas, Miranda, La Guaira, Aragua, Carabobo and Falcon, were severely affected. Authorities activated an emergency command structure to coordinate the response, while Maiquetia International Airport was closed after sustaining significant damage to its facilities.
