What British Teenagers Really Think About Their Futures

.

.

Hundreds of teenagers have told the BBC about their fears for the future and that they want more guidance from school on how to get a job.

A survey for the BBC asked 2,000 young people, all aged 13 to 18, about the world of work - and what help they need to secure employment once they leave full-time education.

Some called for more work experience at school and opportunities to improve their communication skills.

They also highlighted concerns about stress management, personal finances and how to apply for jobs.

In England, the government has an ambition to guarantee two weeks of work experience for every young person. However, this opportunity is not available to all teenagers, with more than half of those surveyed telling us they had not done any.

As part of the Teen Summit project by Radio 5 Live and BBC Bitesize, we followed four students from Newcastle - Param, McKenzie, Jasmine and Javaris - as they tried out roles for the first time as part of their work experience placements.
